Go Niagara Tours mourns the passing of James V. Glynn, longtime Chairman and CEO of Maid of the Mist.

James Glynn’s life and legacy are inseparable from the history of Niagara Falls. He first joined the Maid of the Mist in 1950 as a young ticket seller while attending Niagara University. In 1971, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by purchasing the company and assuming leadership — a role he would hold for decades.

Under his stewardship, the Maid of the Mist remained family-owned, deeply rooted in the community, and committed to doing things the right way. He guided the company through generational change and modernization while protecting the integrity of one of the world’s most iconic attractions. His leadership helped usher in environmentally friendly, all-electric vessels — a lasting symbol of respect for the Falls themselves.

James Glynn was known for steadiness, humility, and a deep sense of responsibility to this place. He understood that Niagara Falls is not merely a destination, but a trust to be cared for and passed on.

His impact will be felt for generations — by the employees he supported, the city he helped anchor, and the millions who experienced the Falls from the decks of the Maid of the Mist.

Niagara Falls is better because of James V. Glynn.

May he rest in peace.
